THE BARN AT GORWELL FARM

Dorset’s most
beautifully hidden
wedding venue

Gorwell Farm sits within 500 acres of private farmland, reached by a long winding lane that feels like stepping out of the world entirely. At its heart stands a 17th-century stone barn, warm, characterful, and completely your own for the weekend.

This isn’t a venue with a rigid itinerary or a long list of rules. Gorwell is a blank canvas, a working family farm that opens its doors to couples who want to create something personal, unhurried, and truly their own. Bring your own caterers, your own flowers, your own music. Our Wedding Co-ordinator is there on the day to make sure your plans and personal touches all fall into place.

The barn is licensed for civil ceremonies and can seat up to 130 guests, with a spacious outside area for drinks receptions or marquee overflow. Six on-site cottages mean your nearest and dearest can stay the whole weekend.

YOUR WEDDING DAY

Moment by beautiful moment

There’s no single way to have a wedding at Gorwell. But here’s a sense of how a wedding might unfold, and why so many couples say it felt like time stood still.

01

Arrival & Getting Ready

Your guests arrive the day before, settling into their cottages as the valley does what it does best, bringing people together. The evening is yours to spend however you choose, sharing a meal, catching up with family and friends, or simply enjoying the surroundings with the people who matter most.

When your wedding morning arrives, there’s no early alarm or distant hotel to dash from. The day begins calmly, at your own pace, with your bridal party getting ready on-site and everything already in place around you. Your Wedding Co-ordinator will be on hand throughout your wedding day to liaise with your suppliers and keep timings on track, leaving you free to simply enjoy every moment.

02

The Ceremony

Exchange your vows inside the barn, licensed for civil ceremonies and filled with natural light through its high windows, or step outside to our beautiful woodland aisle leading to the pergola – also fully licensed for ceremonies – where the open valley and sky stretch out around you. Either way, the setting is entirely, unmistakably yours.

03

Drinks Reception

The spacious oak-framed patio area is perfect for a relaxed drinks reception, with champagne and canapes while your photographer captures memories in the golden Dorset valley light. Our giant Jumbrella parasols mean the patio is ready whatever the weather – sun or showers – so there’s no compromise on your plans. The pace is entirely yours to set, shaped around the day you’ve chosen to create.

04

Feasting & Dancing

The barn comes into its own for the wedding breakfast and evening reception. Large enough for 130 guests, warm and characterful underfoot with its flagstone and heating, and with a fully-equipped kitchen and managed bar, your caterers can focus on the food while we handle the drinks.

05

The Morning After

One of Gorwell’s greatest gifts is waking up together. The evening carries on until midnight, with outdoor music until 11pm, so there’s plenty of time to celebrate before the night draws in and everyone retreats to their cottages.

Come morning, the valley is quiet, there’s no distant hotel to check out of, and your family and friends are all still here. Cottages are yours until 11am, giving everyone time to surface slowly, share a morning cup of something, and relive the day together.
If you’d like to arrange it, the barn is available for a relaxed group brunch – a gentle close to your celebration before you head your separate ways.

Your wedding at Gorwell is entirely private to you and your guests. Once your celebration draws to a close, we welcome other couples to come and fall in love with the valley for themselves – much as we hope you did.
